Happy Friday everyone! I wanted to start 2019 off by talking about winter skin care. In the winter months your skin care regimen may change from your routine in the summer months. Your skin is normally dry and screaming for moisture in the winter. Lately I have been into making sure that my skin is glowing and properly hydrated. Now, that I’m in my early 30’s my skin has changed drastically. Maybe it’s my hormones, or just the fact that I’m no longer a 20 year old post college kid LOL. My skin is now more prone to dryness, excess oil, and breakouts. Due to the fact that most products on the market are extremely expensive, I have decided to stick to affordable drugstore products. After trying Clean & Clear, Neutrogena, and Ambi I’ve found a drugstore skin care line that has done wonders for my problematic skin. Can you guess what the brand is? Can I get a drumroll? It is non other than Shea Moisture. I use most of the products from the Kukui Nut & Grapeseed Oil collection. The collection is recommended for aging skin and it has youth infusing ingredients, such as olive leaf extract and avocado oil. Since I never use anything on my face without doing some research I decided to look up the benefits of the ingredients used in the products.

I learned that Kukui Nut Oil is rich in vitamins A, C, and E that protect the skin against premature aging. Grapeseed Oil is full of antioxidants and Olive Oil is great for moisturizing. Although, I am in my early 30’s why not try to combat aging skin before it starts? The key to having great skin is to incorporate a regimen that works for you and stick to it. Don’t believe the hype your skin care regimen doesn’t have to be expensive. Just because products are costly doesn’t always mean they are the best choices for your skin. The Shea Moisture brand is affordable and life changing! Before using the products I was actually excited and afraid to use them. I have really sensitive skin. Most drugstore products that I try out for the first time usually cause redness, and depending on the ingredients I may have an allergic reaction. To my surprise my skin was actually smooth after using the products. I didn’t experience any redness or unusual breakouts. If you have sensitive skin like me no need to worry all Shea Moisture products are certified organic and cruelty free.

Before I go into the steps of my winter skin care routine just remember everyone’s skin routine is different. What works for me may not work for you. However, don’t be afraid to try my regimen it may just be the answer you have been searching for to help your winter skin. I have listed each step of my routine below. Now let’s get into it!

My Winter Skin Care Routine

STEP 1- WASH YOUR HANDS

You never want to begin any skin care regimen without washing your hands. Your hands are subject to more germs than any other part of your body. Try using a hand soap that’s all natural and antibacterial.

STEP 2- REMOVE ALL MAKEUP

Remove all of your makeup so you will have a fresh face. I like to use a makeup wipe. Any brand of makeup wipes will do, but I prefer the Neutrogena cleansing towelettes in the blue package. If I’m out of wipes I put coconut oil all over my face. I let it settle then I use a warm damp cloth to wipe off all of the excess makeup. If coconut oil is not a option I go straight into cleansing. I recommend washing your face (3x) if you are removing makeup. If not (2x) should do the trick.

add a dime sized amount of cleanser to your facial brush.

STEP 3- CLEANSE

Take the Cleanser (Kukui Nut & Grapeseed Oils Youth Infusing Crème Cleanser) and apply it to your fingertips, or if you have a spin brush apply it to the spin brush and wash your face and neck upward in circular motions concentrating on your problem areas. Don’t forget to cleanse the sides of your nose where black heads, dry skin, or white heads often rest. Let the cleanser penetrate in your skin for 5-7 minutes before removing. To remove I love to use warm water. Once all of the cleanser is removed I then splash my face with cold water to prepare my skin for my mask of choice.

Add cleanser to your spin brush and clean your face.

STEP 4- MASK

Your probably wondering why I do a mask after cleansing, but sometimes cleansing can strip your face of it’s natural oils. Using a facial mask has many benefits, such as adding hydration and drawing out all of the toxins in the skin. The mask I use is the Raw Shea Butter Hydrating Mud Mask for dry skin. I leave it on for 10 minutes and then I remove it with a warm cloth. I use a mask in my regimen once a week.

Apply your face mask for 10 minutes and remove with warm water.

STEP 5- TONE

Toning is the next step in my regimen. It removes all of the left over products while shrinking pores. Toner also tightens the skin. I noticed that when I added a toner into my routine my acne started clearing up tremendously. I use the Kukui Nut & Grapeseed Oil Youth Infusing Toner with round cotton pads to apply. This toner comes in a spray bottle. You can either spray your face as a mist, or spray it on the cotton pad like me and wipe your face gently.

STEP-6 ADD MOISTURE

After toning you can’t skip the most important step of all, which is moisturizing your skin. With the Kukui collection the Youth Infusing Face & Neck Crème goes a long way. Use a medium to dime size amount and add to the skin. To apply the moisturizer on your neck move hands in an upward motion. This helps prevent premature wrinkles. To apply under the eyes dab the product and smooth it out. Since your under eye skin is the most delicate part of your face you have to be extra gentle. One thing I noticed after using this product is my face felt well moisturized. The moisturizer didn’t just sit on the top layer of my skin it really penetrated into the skin. It was easy to apply and it smells amazing. Most natural skin care collections smell earthy almost the point that you hate using them. This collection has a fresh clean scent that I know everyone will appreciate.

STEP 7- APPLY LIP BALM

You thought moisturizing was the end of my routine? I can’t end the my routine with out giving my lips some TLC LOL. No one wants to present themselves to the world with cracked lips. To moisturize my lips I use
Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Butter Lip Balm. It adds the perfect amount of sheen to your lips and smells divine. To purchase click here.
